losing baby teeth

I saw some other posts about teeth in general but I was wondering about kids and losing their baby teeth. Anyone else's kid delayed? How about baby teeth being in rough shape?
Owen has only lost two teeth on his own and just had two pulled today (he is almost 8). This is a little yucky but his front tooth was loose but the adult tooth had come in but it was in the middle of the roof of his mouth! Not fun.
Our dentist has told us several times that the condition of his teeth is reflective of his overall health. He grinds them too so they are very small and what is left of them is quite grey. He has had five cavities despite not drinking juice or soda and not being able to eat sweets for most of his life (makes him shaky and also high loads of sugar did a number on his intestines before he had Creon to help).
As far as the location of his adult tooth and the over-crowding of adult teeth in his x-rays, I am sure that could technically happen to anyone. I am most interested in hearing if other kids' teeth are discolored and not falling out in average time.
Thanks!

I actually didnt loose all of my baby teeth until I was almost 18. Had I not forced that one, Im sure it would have taken longer, but my dentist threatened to pull it. :/  I also noticed quite a few of my baby teeth that fell out after the age of 14 actually started to break after they were pulled out, like they were cracked, because they were clean lines at the break area. I had to have one of them pulled out because it broke while it was in my still in after I had pulled out half of it.
As far as quality of teeth go, I have floride lines on my teeth and several cavities that had to be filled. When I was a lot younger, say 6 maybe, I had a tooth that was worn down to the gum in the center. Im not sure how that happened but it did. It wasnt painful at all but just strange.  I also notice my front teeth tend to chip a little like just outside parts if Im not careful. You cant see where its chipped because its just a fleck really.

DS didn't get his first teeth until he was about 8-9 months old.  Lost his first tooth when he was 6.  Lost a couple more last year.  We take him to the dentist for cleanings every 3 months and so far there haven't been any issues.
When he was a baby, I was worried due to brownish orangish spots on his inside lower teeth.  Turned out it was caused by his adeks vitamins.  So the hygenist usually has to work a little extra hard to clean that area.
Friend of mine is a dental hygenist and has a child wcf and she indicated that sinus problems can cause tooth issues -- breathing thru ones month, nebs can be drying, medications...

Jordan didn't get his first tooth until he was 11 months old.  He had one knocked out when he was 4, but didn't lose any naturally until he was 7 or 8.  The adult tooth that replaced the knocked out tooth finally grew in about that age too.

Seems we are in good company <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Thanks for the responses. When I talked to the dentist today (dh had taken him for the extractions) he said he thinks the root (haha!) of the problem is malnutrition and repeated meds. So, all of what you thought here is accurate, according to him. I think some of it must be genetic too but he clearly seems affected in his teeth by his overall health. Add it to the list, right?

Dark or stained teeth is very common from all the meds we take. When he's older crest white strips are an easy touch up, I think I started using them in my teens but I also drink a lot of tea. I believe we were also told that extra plaque build up was common from breathing through the mouth a lot.
