Lung pains

Hi, just a quick question. Over the weekend I have got pain in my lungs... sort of stings, and I get tired. I have had it before -I have bronchestasia (sorry, don't know the correct spelling). And I was just wondering if anyone has the same, and what measures you take when you have it. I have taken paracetamol and I take it easy, and try to cough up what I have.

Thanks.

There are some old threads on pain that you can search, but I think that the gist of them is:
Yes, lung pain is common and there are different kinds. NSAIDs are nice because they can help the inflammation component but watch out if you are a bleeder.

pleurisy: pain worse with inhalation because of the rub/inflammation of the lining of your lung; often accompanied by sounds/rubbing/tapping feel.

infection pain: ranging from ache to sharp pain, sometimes referred into shoulder or neck, check for pneumonia.

sudden twisting pain: bad but fast--usually a muscle spasm from coughing.

atelectasis: feels like the infection pain but not always accompanied by fever/malaise. Using a PEP device like acapella can help.

I hope you feel better soon. I personally like hot baths to help with the pain in addition to the meds.

G:

Interesting you should ask this cause for the last couple days I've been experiencing pain in my right upper lobe, which is exactly where they've seen the most severe bronchiectasis. So, my guess is, its the scarring and mess the bronchiectasis is leaving. I have been taking ibuprofren for my pain but its not helping. I hope you're able to find relief or info from others who have found relief on the boards. I know many of us have varying degrees of pain from CF, so you're not alone.

Take care,

I had a severe pain in my chest on only one side. I ended up going to the ER, had a chest XRAY and they found nothing. It could have been a plug they said or a simple muscle pull.

Most recently I have had a lot of sharp pains when I take a deep breath. This I know is a muscle pull because I also have pain in my neck and back and it wraps all around to the front. The massage therapist works it and it helps significantly. Hot/cold packs also works.

Pain is frustrating. Especially when no one can tell you where its coming from or why.
