We use rhinocort and saline sprays. </end quote>

Rhinocort is an extremely weak intranasal steroid.

Of all the branded meds, between Flonase, Nasonex, Nasacort AQ, Rhinocort is the weakest.

Head to head studies of Flonase vs. Nasacort show that they are equally as effective. Head to head studies of Flonase vs. Nasonex demonstrate that Nasonex is weaker.

Since Flonase and nasacort are equally efficacious, we can move to side effect profile. FLonase contains alcohol which causes headaches and nose bleeds, whereas Nasacort lacks alcohol.

Ask your doctor for a better intranasal steroid. I bet you'll see improved results!

I was given Rhinocort for my son and it was pretty useless then we were given flonase. I have to say I thought my son was getting headaches and I did not like his change in behavior I was noticed. I said somthing at clinic of course. We were given zyrtec a oral anahistimine. I know I spelled that wrong. I know he said Damiens nose congestion looked like allergies. I do like the zyrtec better so far. I know thats not much help,is anyone else using zyrtec?

Zyrtec will do great for itchy eyes, runny nose. But won't treat sinus issues.

Rhinocort is awful because of its low efficacy. Flonase is horrible because it causes headaches due to the alcohol issue.

If you're having stuffiness, the best way to treat that is with an intranasal steroid. An oral anti-histamine like Zyrtec (which by the way will dry out a CFer's secretions.... no so good.... try Allegra oral suspension for 12 moths + instead... Allegra will not dry) won't touch stuffiness.

Nasacort AQ is just as effective as flonase without the alcohol. Get Damien on that (doc might give you push back about age approval but the reality is that the company simply hasn't done the studies. It's used off label all the time in young children. All intranasal steroids have the same safety with regards to HPA supression).

Wonder why they put him on rhinocort, dang. Thanks for all the suggestions I'll discuss them with his Dr . after his surgery. He is so stuffed up, he sounds like Darth Vader all the time, eveyone always turns around and looks at him during mass, ( I think they think he's sleeping) sounds like he's snoring.<img src="i/expressions/noseblow.gif" border="0">
