Hey everybody, Kinda new to these forms so ill start with a quick introduction.. My name is Alan, Im 24 year young PWCF from Ireland.
I recently got the kick up my arse I needed to put in the effort with reguards exercise and maintaining fitness. I wont go as far as saying im un-fitbut I definatly needed some motivation to get going. All that said, Im considering committing myself for the Dublin Marathon in October and am just wondering what it takes?

I started back in the gym last week. I try to go 3 times a week at the minute, I run on the threadmil at 6Kmph to 10Kmph for about 45minutes, covering about 10Km per session.
I also try do some weight training though am limited with this because of a bloodclot I got a few years back from a portacat (Another story altogether! )
Has anyone got any idea what sort of figures or times/speeds I should be aiming for (long term)?

Not sure if im jumping in the deep end a bit early with this one, although it would offer the motivation to exercise and help with my fundraising/awarness goals.

Thanks in advance!
Alan

I'm not cf but you should enetually get outside. Start running 10 km a day every day with one day break in a week. You can start walking hard for 5 minutes and run for two and then start running the whole distatnce. after a while start running half marathons. Get someone to run with you. mainatin good diet and drink alot. Pasta is a good diet for running... but I guess you know about diet alot more.
before the run - take a break. Your runing time will be jumping - it's normal... you're doing better and bettrer an dthen you get worst for a little time _ aha - measure your times.

I guess it's not to early - even if you walk the marathon - it's great! just keep on running.
There are many pages and some books on how to runn
Good luck - I love running - it's like you leave all behing and just run.... and afetr you get so happy....I love running in the hills - and in the forest.... Good luck again

try writting to BaylorCrew07 about cf and running marathons.
Biking is also a good start.
And one more thing - good shoes and begin running on soft ground - not on pavement - that can really hurt.

Good on you for getting your body to this sort of fitness level. IMO, a marathon is a fantastic goal - just be sure you're operating within the confines of your (competent) medical professionals' recommendations.

There are certainly forums / resources better suited to help you train, but I'll add to the previous posts: take it easy. There's no shame in walking part of the way if your body isn't cooperating.

Best wishes on your goal.
