im on SSI and i get a medical card. i have tried workin and find it too complicated and not worth it. i could only make like 200$ every 2 weeks to recieve a little over 200$ check. so it was not paying my bills at all.

so me and my b/f, that i live with, decided i would quit..i also quite b/c of my health...but anyways.

im not gettin married anytime soon. but just curious as to how me and him will ever be able to get married and me still keep my medical card. he just got a new job so we duno how it will work out, they hired him as temporary. so he is not settled with a career/job and has no health insurance himself. im pretty sure if we got married he would make too much money for me to still recieve SSI or a medical card, since i made to much workin part time as a hairdresser makin 200 or less every 2 weeks.

anybody else went through this?

From what I was told if I marry my fiance I loose my SSI since its a joint income now supposivley, but I was also told that I wouldnt loose my insurance ever. I would suggest calling your local social security office and asking this.

Hey Bobbie,

I think it varies state by state.. Here in N.Y. - My husband works so his ins is my primary, medicare is secondary for me.. I receive a check from SS for my self and my children..

I also get a check from my Retirement Disabled account (because i worked a number of years and am eligible for that)

You have to check out what your state offers.. Its good to check it out before hand so there aren't any surprises and you know what you are dealing with..

Take care <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0"> joni

I would suggest contacting Beth Sufian. She is an attorney with CF who helps others navigate the laws and she is especially good with the SSA. Her contact info is: bsufian@usacfa.org or 800-622-0385

She's helped us. We considered getting married just with a religious ceremony, but the state we were in was a common-law state, so we'd be considered married if we lived together, so that wasn't an option for us.
