Hi, My husband and I just went to our first consultation for the IVF procedure. We found out that is will cost up to $20,000. We just cannot afford this right now, so I am pretty upset about that. Actually, I am upset/nervous about the whole process. How did you all pay for this? I'd love to know as much as I can about this procedure. I could use some optimism right now...

Gemini, do you or your husband have insurance? My husband & I are both teachers so our insurance covers all of our costs besides our co-pays for our appointments & medications...otherwise, we would have to take a loan. The first day we went to our Fertility Center we met with a financial counselor (she is amazing!) who walked us through the whole process. Dealing with the insurance company as well as the pharmacy company has been exhausting (we were originally denied coverage b/c they saw that I was healthy & ignored the fact that my husband is infertile), but it's all getting worked out now.

Julie (who posted earlier on this topic) has a great website with some preliminary information on insurance. Julie's website also has some wonderful information on the whole IVF process, as well.

CF wives like us & our husbands have a longer & more complicated route to parenthood, for sure...but it is possible. Don't give up!

I start my injections next week & I cannot wait! Our transfer is scheduled 1 month from today & then we will finally be pregnant <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Talk to your doctor & Fertility Center. I know ours offers a full refund if IVF does not work for couples even without insurance.
