Inhaled TOBI bid every other 28 days is first line of defense, I believe. Oral cipro (or by iv) is also a common script.

This question reminded me of another question - is anyone participating in the aztreonam inhaled antibiotic study?

Thanks,

it depends on the individual like the above post. I have 2 kinds of psuedo but Cipro doenst work for me and hasnt for years. We dont use cipro by IV here. Usually once the orals dont work we move on to other "super drugs" like Fortaz, merepenum, tazocin and toberymycin by IV are common ones im usually on.(i live in canada) Im usually on 2 different ones at once along with inhaled tobermycin or TOBI. Sometimes Colymycin is used to but it doesnt work for everyone. Its also inhaled. sometimes used in the off month of the Tobi or tober.

I just found out that I have 2 strins of pseudomonas. The first one has & does respond to the usual rounds of Tobi aerosol, Tobramyacin IV &/or Cipro. The second is resistant to these. I will be going on a new aerosol antibiotic, but for the life of me cant remember the name. I want to say its the Colymycin that people have mentioned, but I'm not sure. Its in review with my insurance because its so new for me. What I do know about it according to the doctor is that its known to be "frothy" while administering it. She has also been told by patients that the cooler it is at the time of use the less "frothy" it is. From the sounds of it does it sound like the Colymycin? I'll know for sure later today because I need to check on the review process.

If I had to use one word to describe Coly... frothy would be it. It has to be mixed prior to use. Our clinic uses sterile water. I find that if you mix it up a bit before having to do the neb, the frothiness in the bottle settles down. Once you get the hang of how to mix it best, it's not really a problem.

I'm not sure - by the time I learned about the study, it had already begun at our clinic. I wondered if anyone here is in it and could let us know how it's going.

Always looking for good news!
