mild pain on lower right abdominal area

what should i do to deal with what feels like a lower right abdominal cramp? It's not very severe, in fact I would consider it mild, but it started last night and hasn't gone away and it gets worse when i cough. i don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill and i certainly don't want to miss any work unnecessarily, but i'm also not entirely sure i trust my version of "mild" pain and i don't want to ignore something that could potentially be a big deal. i haven't had any fevers or anything else like that (although tough to tell if i have a decreased appetite because it goes up and down for me so much anyway) and i think my stomach is soft (not a lot of fat there, though, so again, tough to tell). i feel like if i had something like appendicitis i would be in much more pain, but then again i would have thought the same thing about a collapsed lung, for example. i keep expecting this to go away but it hasn't. weird.

has anyone had anything similar? any advice, besides the obvious to alert my doctor (already done)? i hate not knowing if something is a problem or if i'm just hypersensitive bc of all the problems cf has been causing me lately!

That is the general area of the gallbladder. I recently had mine removed and the pain was anything but mild (severe was more like it), but I think that it would be worth getting checked out.

This might be an old wives' tale, but I read somewhere that the following is a test for appendicitis.

Lift up your right knee to waist level.

Keeping knee at this position, straighten your leg so that your leg is parallel to the floor.

If this causes bad pain, it is your appendix.

Again....I don't know how accurate this is...I'm just putting it out there.

i had right lower abdominal pain before when i was like 15 or so. it turned out that it was an intersucception. the pain started out mild but got worse with time, but it was more of a stabbing pain rather than a cramping one. i also had a perpherated appendix, which later did rupture. i would just get it checked out. i suggest an x-ray or a CT scan just to be on the safe side. there could be a lot of reasons why. now that i'm jogging my memory i also had an ovarian cyst rupture and that was painful too.

i agree with everyone else, err on the side of caution and get checked out.
