Miscarriage

I'm now in my 6th week. For the last 3 days I have had light spotting, but it isn't bright red blood, its just pink discharge. It's there on the TP after I go to the bathroom and I've started to wear a pantyliner (so I don't pee my pants) and there is a little bit on there as well. Also, there are periods of time where there is no spotting.

Everything I've read says that occasional spotting is normal and that usually a miscarriage has bright red blood and major cramps, both of which I don't have. Yesterday, though, I had flu like symptoms (tired, weak) and a fever. I called the doctor and they told me to take Tylenol and now I feel better.

Does this sound normal? I'm going to call the doctors this morning but I was hoping I could have some insight from you.

6 weeks pregnant....so about 2 weeks post conception, right? Sounds like it could be implantation bleeding. Also remember 20-30% of pregnant women experience brown/pink blood/discharge in the first few months of pregnancy. Have you asked your mother if she experienced this in her pregnancy?

It's great there's not pure red blood or clots. I wouldn't stress about it. At this point it's pretty much completely out of your control. So much is happening to get this little life started. Many checks and balances are happening to assure that (s)he can handle the trials and tribulations of life.

Miscarriages are unfortunate but we have to remember that it's natures way of bringing such perfect beings to us.
It sounds like you are listening to your body. The first trimester was a bit of a rollercoaster for me. I'd feel great one day then exhausted the next. Eat well, sleep well and resume the normal amount of activity you did pre-pregnancy and do what you can to reduce stress. I know easier said than done...I was neurotic about miscarriage concern the 1st trimester. I'm not sure why because I didn't have any complications. I think it's somewhat just having cf and feeling like we are so blessed and surprised that it's really happening.

Again congrats ~ and no worries mommy. Take care of that little bean inside of you:)

Yes, it does sound like it could be implantation bleeding. I had that plus minor placenta previa after implantation. Cassie's placenta attached right next to (and almost over) my cervix. So until about 14 weeks I had on and off bleeding.

If you are that stressed and concerned (and rightly so, pregnancy is a big deal!!!), you should see your doctor. Even so they can just take a look and say "everything is fine", it will make you feel better.

Keep us posted, I'll be thinking about you

I had a little of that, and it would freak me out so bad I couldn't eat (and I am a "stress eater"). I can't tell you how many "Yes, everything is okay" appointments I had . (It took us 11 years to get pregnant). Your doctor will probably understand- they see lots of concerned pregnant women, and something new is always a good reason to check with your doctor, since, if nothing else, it will reduce your stress about things .

Lindsey,

I also had brown/pink spotting at that stage of my first pregnancy. It lasted about 4 days and then went away. Everything turned out fine. This pregnancy, I actually had small amounts of red spotting and even tiny clot looking specs from 5 weeks to about 7 weeks on and off. I am currently 34 weeks and 4 days and everything looks good. I know it's hard not to stress or panic, but just know that the spotting can be normal and you very likely will progress through your pregnancy with little problems. Good luck and hang in there!

Thank you all for your replies. I called the nurse and all she said was "at 6 weeks there's nothing we can do." I didn't particularly like her answer, but all of your responses have made me feel better It's so hard not to stress. I spent last weekend in the hospital to get my blood sugars leveled out. They were fine, but since I am on the insulin pump they wanted to get new basal levels for the pregnancy. It was the first time I had ever been in the hospital for anything other than CF! While I was there they did an ultrasound and I saw the yolk sac. I'm hoping that my appointment next Friday will show us a heartbeat!

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!
