i've had someone think i had M.S. before! Completely different to C.F. but think they just remembered it was initials of something so went with the first illness that came to mind!

I've gotten the MS confusion too, don't know what was up with that.

One time when the whole anthrax scare was going on I was in a store and was coughing, and a guy nearby looked up and smirked and said "Anthrax?"

-shakes my head- i dont get it...maybe they should and maybe they shouldnt..but they people almost ALWAYS seem to know what Asthma is and what AIDs is...why dont they ever know what Cystic Fibrosis is? and i HATE explaining to people cause i dont know what they will think...they should like...teach it in schools or something -shrugs-

I've had people think I had MS (don't know why) and when I was in high school, alot of people would say " I hear you have some wierd disease or something", sometimes they were trying to be rude, others they weren't. When I'd explain it they always felt like jerks.

People ask if it's a cyst disorder and one of my aunts asked if that makes them my kids "stupid" pple always ask when they will out grow it. Most ppl just don't know much about that don't directly affect them. Thats why I always explain. My grandma didn't know about my kids my parents told her they "just have stomach problems". I said something about it and she had no idea.

yes alot of people (used to be alot of family members) seemed to treat kaits disease as if it were not really anything to be concerned about and that she too would someday grow out of it (like asthma) I think that if people would be more willing to learn about CF they would understand alot better how bad this can be.

thanks

You're all probably going to hate me, but when i don't really have time to explain CF to someone, I just tell them it's sorta like asthma. =-) I know they are completely different, but it's just something simple so people that people can recognize so they'll understand why i'm coughing or breathing through a neb. When people see me taking enzymes, I just tell them I have trouble digesting my food. =-) Of course, every once in a while, Someone will be talking about CF and they'll say it's just like asthma, and I'll say "Not really" Then they're all like, "But you said it was!" Then I have to admit that I lied. =-)

Yeah Jarod I have to agree. Someone would say "oh thats a terrible cough you have there, have you got asthma?" Id end up just saying yeah..sort of! And like that if someone asked what it was I'd just say its kind of like asthma

One time years ago I had just gotten out of the hospital and I saw someone I knew, she asked me why I was in the hospital and I told her I had CF and was sick. She thought I meant Chronic Fatigue. She was really embarassed when I told her what CF really meant.

It is really irritating when people try to downplay it and act like its no big deal.

lol Jarod..i do the same things when im in a bad mood or if i just plain out dont like the person cause i mean, if they dont care about me, why do they all of a sudden care about the REAL me? oO exactly lol
