You can get this amazing pressure steamer(what i clean and kill mold with. By putting a mix of water and 10% Bleach. It's amazing takes only minutes) For 100 dollars or less. You need to buy it on-line to get it at this price.

Home Depot sells them. I'am sure most retail Home improvement stores also sell them on-line for less, if you don't have a Home Depot near you.

Hope this helps Caitlin <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Mold is horrible. Any time we have mold growing in the apartment, I have more lung inflammation, sinus problems and sleep issues.

When I had a mold and mildew problem, I read that bleach was insufficient because the molecules are too large and won't get into porous materials. So you kill the stuff on the surface but the "roots" (so to speak) live and grow back.

Here is a link: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.spore-tech.com/viewCategory.asp?idCategory=78">http://www.spore-tech.com/view...gory.asp?idCategory=78</a>

I bought something specifically for killing mold, but it was pretty toxic. I doubt I would do that again. These days, I typically use peroxide and scrub it off the surface. I had a problem with mold growing on the door frame of my sliding glass door to the patio. The metal part of the frame was covered in paint and no matter how much I cleaned, it kept growing back. I took a metal scrubber and scoured some of the paint off the metal frame. Since then, I clean that door a lot less than I used to and I have a lot fewer respiratory problems.

Ideally, any porous materials that have mold in them should be removed/replaced. It is very stubborn stuff and hard to completely wipe out. A fan to air out the bathroom can help discourage it from coming back. Or at least open the window after showering if you have no fan. I have recently had good results with using salt and black tea for killing mold. If my clothes smell like mold, I soak them in water with tea bags and that helps. The salt has worked well for hard surfaces, like the kitchen sink.

we have mold growing on our bathroom ceiling even after they painted it with that supposide mold preventing paint but my parents still havent taken care of it.

ive got a severe allergy to mold it makes my asthma spike up n makes me tight after showers...its the only shower in our house...

i cant wait to get out of here.

so mold is bad...sometimes being around it gave me hemoptysis (in school)

OMG...thank you all soooooo much. I really appreciate all of the advice! I just feel like my parents just shrug it off their shoulders like its nothing, so it made me think I was acting crazy thinking it was a big deal. Now that I KNOW its a big deal, I will definitely try to do something about it.

I may have to get someone else to clean it though, its pretty high on the wall...and I am short. lol.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>When I had a mold and mildew problem, I read that bleach was insufficient because the molecules are too large and won't get into porous materials. So you kill the stuff on the surface but the "roots" (so to speak) live and grow back. </end quote></div>

That is exactly what happened in my dorm. We kept cleaning it and it kept coming back even worse till we had it checked.

Graves, Do you know what your mold cleaner machine is called? I may look into it...seems like it would be useful, even for when I move out so I wont have to touch and be as close to the mold.

Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with my parents though? They are very hard to convince. Do you have any websites that would show them how bad it is for not only me, but them as well?
