Having mold on the tile in your shower is different from having mold on the drywall around the shower. Mold on drywall would be a much harder thing to get rid of and may go down deeper into the wall than you can see.Someone (<b>not you!!!</b>) should cut out the affected area of the drywall and see how bad the mold problem is. If it is limited to just the drywall then they could patch the drywall back up. If it is on the studs then you have a bigger problem to deal with.

Bleach cleaner does keep it away, but you have to stay on top of it (I will have to try the mold and root cleaner, thanks). In our bathroom, I had to put caulking around the top of the shower a couple of years ago, because I didn't want water sitting up there and starting the bad mold behind the sheetrock), and thankfully, when I removed sheetrock to put the caulk in, our mold was "just" painted surface mold, not the deep, into the wall, have a professional come out and handle it type. I know this is an older post...but I was just doing a vigorous cleaning of my bathroom and there is just so much dark brown mold that grows under the mat and the rims of the faucets and in the grout. I scrub it quite regularly, but some of the grout is stained black. if it's still black or grayish and nothing is coming off anymore is the mold still on there? I just can't tell b/c I am in an older apt building and it may be stained as even with bleach it doesn't come off. i am learning more and more of precautions i should be taking so i just wanted to ask b/c i want to make my apt as clean as possible. also should i wear a mask or anything when i am in there scrubbing the mold off the mat. my bathroom doesn't have a fan so i feel like it's neverending! thanks in advance!

I know this is an old post but I think it's important to spread the word about MOLD... CF... AND BLEACH. MOST websites and a lot of products talk about killing mold with Bleach. This is not accurate. Bleach only aggravates the mold and causes it to go into overdrive, so to speak. When mold feels like it's being attacked it explodes into tiny airborn particles and becomes more dangerous than if you just left it alone. About a month ago I discovered that my shower was leaking and created a black mold wall in the storage closet directly behind the shower. My first instinct was to reach for bleach. I did a search online and felt confident about my decision, as most websites tell you to use bleach to remove mold. So I did just that. I used half bleach and half water to wash down the wall. This removed the mold visually and I thought I had taken care of it. I knew I would have to have the wall, itself, removed but I felt safe for the time being. I then proceeded to put a fan in this room to help with drying and hope that the mold would be at bay until I could have someone come in and take care of the problem. ALL these steps were wrong! Especially for a person with CF. I have spent the last month coughing blood and feeling worse than I ever have. The bleach reacting with the mold was when my first symptoms showed up. My eyes became itchy and watery, my nose began to run every time I was near this area. I bleached and rebleached and mopped and vacuumed my little heart out. What I was actually doing was exposing myself over and over again to a process that is completely wrong. Bleach does not kill mold. It only makes it worse. The ONLY way to get rid of mold is to have it removed. There are mold specialists in my home right now removing this mold. They have sealed the entire space and are using HEPA systems and full bodysuits with respirators. MOLD is BAD. Bleach with mold is WORSE. I couldn't see that the mold was there so I thought I had taken care of the biggest part of my problem. I was wrong. This has tremendously affected my life and my lungs are in great pain every breath I take. Do not think for a second that mold is okay. And don't ever try to take care of it yourself. There are certain molds that won't hurt you so bad. But if you have CF or other respiratory illness... stay away!! Let someone else do the work. If you want to clean the mold, use soap and water. I know it doesn't sound as effective as bleach but its safer and the mold won't feel as threatened.
