Hi Jessica. Sorry to hear about the PA and MRSA. I think it can be common that they go that long without a positive culture, especially when they are as young as Madison. The little ones don't know how to cough up the mucus for a good culture. So you are only really getting what is showing up in the throat.
I expressed my concern regarding this issue with my girls CF dr. and he said that is why they went to culturing at every clinic appt rather than years ago when they only did the cultures once a year. He said that doing them more often will give you a better chance at finding the bacteria, even if it is only a throat culture.
My daughter, Hannah, cultured PA in August 06 and then Sept 06, then August 07...so far in 08 she has been clear<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
Each time she has done Tobi for 4 weeks and Cipro for 2 weeks.
Both of my girls have MRSA, and it is sensitive to Bactrim, so that is what they are normally on during flare ups. Our dr. doesn't treat the MRSA unless they are having symptoms.
