Hi Connie. My daughters both have MRSA, and have for most of their lives. Actually, not sure when Kayla caught it, b/c she wasn't dx until she was 14 months old, but Hannah started culturing it when she was just about one month old, her first CF clinic appt.

Hannah hasn't had much issues with it. Kayla, has been in the hospital once for a flare up. She was on IV vanc for it. It worked ok to get the bacteria under control. It helped knock down the bacteria counts in her sputum. Then she went on oral Zyvox for another flare up, and that worked better than the IV vanc. She had MRSA clear sputum cultures for about 6 months. But it is back. When her cough increases, she is usually put on Bactrim. That normally helps keep the counts down and gets her feeling better.

I'm not too sure we will ever get rid of it, we just try to keep it under control.

Hope that helps<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> By the way...welcome<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Actually Tristin just finished an admit the end of Aug as pfts were down in May and again in July. He did IV Zyvox then. At his first check up, there were no improvements. His check up in Nov and Dec were both down further. He is on 6 weeks of oral Zyvox right now and Bactrim also. It shows resistance to the Bactrim, but it seems to give the Zyvox a boost. I feel like we are running out of options. I will try a search and see what others have been trying.

Aidan cultured it in his sinuses and lungs. First we did Rifmapin with Bactrim, Phisohex baths, Bactroban up the nose and IV Vancomycin. He still cultured it. We just finished two weeks of oral Zyvox. Today his culture results were clear!! So we are thrilled right now. We are also adding Gentamycin to his nasal rinses for the next two weeks. I'm praying it stays away!
