mucomyst

I have been sick for 12 days, my fever got up to 102.9 but has thankfully gone away; although my temp is still 99.9 (in that area). The cough has gotten worse, it doesn't even seem like my albuterol is working. Anyway I lost my voice Saturday night and still don't have it!

So my primary is calling in mucomyst for me. I've never had it; not that I remember. I looked up the medication and all but was hoping that maybe someone who has taken it can tell me what its like.

I'm a little worried about this one guys, I can't even blow over 200 on my peakflow...(granted my personal best is only 340)I hope this new stuff helps.

So for those who have used it before did it help?

I assume you're talking about inhaling it? I have never inhaled mucomyst before, but have taken it orally. It did make me feel a little short of breath, but the fizzy NAC I am on now doesn't do that. I have talked with my doctors about it a lot and they are reluctant to prescribe it because it can be so irritating.

Do you know what your doctor's reasons were for prescribing it? I've not heard of people using it just during exacerbations.

you might check out noexcuses blog.....in the "warwick" letter he talks about still using it instead of hypertonic saline as a very effective way to get the stuff out. i always found that very interesting. i have asked some of my docs about it....but they tend to not use it anymore because HS is so widely used now. I use to use it as a child....it does smell like rotten eggs; but, i don't remember ever having any trouble using it or hating it. I am sure you will get some users on here who can tell you more. Hugs and hopes that you feel better soon.

Thanks! I just started it last night. I gagged a lot, b/c of the smell and it left a funny taste in my mouth. But it helped my cough up a lot of stuff last night. So I'm glad I tried it. My next CF appointment is the 23rd; but they said if I don't feel better soon to call them. I've had a fever since I got whatever this is! Luckily it isn't as high now as it was before.

I like it; I think it did a better job than my HTS.
