Mucous Question

Thank you for your responses. Maggie this morning had a little throat clearing mucous, gave her a little extra VEST time. I might give her a little more time cause now I am getting a bit of a cold so maybe that's the cause of her extra mucous and being off her double dose Bactrim is a coincidence? I think I'll up her VEST time, push fluids on her and if she gets wheezy again I think I'll call the nurse and ask about a culture...Playing it by ear right now. Today she went to camp, it's for 3 hours in the morning every day. They are putting on a play today..The Little Red Hen..And of course Maggie is the little red hen; the lead part which she is anxious about..She wanted the part, she seems to love to perform. This cough thing with Maggie is not her MRSA cough; that has a very harsh sound.. This is a very infrequent kind of throat/chest clearing thing..So I guess she'll get more beatings which is a bummer.

When DS cultured HIB, if he had symptoms it was more stuffy nose/sinus. When he first cultured stenotrophomonas maltophilia, he had more of a dry, throat clearing cough. Drives me nuts, just when you think you've got things figured out, they throw another symptom or sound at you.

Could it be a postnasal drip type of cough and does she do sinus rinses? Being that DS tends to get more stuffy in the wintertime, I usually have him do a sinus rinse at the first sign of a head cold, when he starts to sneeze and has a clear runny nose. He probably just manages to clear it on his own, but it makes me feel better just in case he's got something else going on to get that thick mucus out of there, so it doesn't stagnate. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Aidan has the same thing! He is acting fine but has this weird cough and wheezing thing. You can hear the extra mucus and for the first time, he spit it up during his treatments. He also cultures staph and MRSA regularly. The doc put him back on pulmozyne once daily and Bactrim for 2 weeks. He said it could also be from all the swimming, it stirs things up?? Aidan swims everyday either in a pool or the ocean. I hate to hear the cough and mucusy sound but he is not acting sick at all! Kinda a mystery....?

Well, I've been trying to keep track of this throat mucus thing. Seems like some days nothing at all then usually right before bed she'll have some mucus in her throat, like tonight and she can feel it there but can't cough it out. I was trying to get her to cough into a tissue(she never has stuff to get up usually) but my guess is she swallows it or it just sticks there. She says it just cause it's raining. Which it is but this IS a mystery..My parents are coming tomorrow but Monday I will call and ask for some input from the CF nurse and a culture. It definately seems like it is before bed, while she's lying down after her story, she gets herself coughing and tight in her throat then sleep all night and seem fine during the day; which is why I've just been watching her and keeping track on our calender of her symptoms. Anyway, this is something new;hoping I can just go in for a quick culture...I feel bad cause I didn't call sooner but she does not seems sick; maybe she's culturing something new?
