I have problems getting it to come all the way up too. I'm not sure why, it makes it really hard to get a sputum culture at clinic, they practically have to turn me upside down and shake it out. It doesn't really bother me too much. I do have an easier time getting it up if I've been sick and have been on meds for a few days. As far as the taste thing goes all I can say is that mine only tastes nastywhen I'm sick.

I have a hard time getting it up too, mine is so thick. Usually if I do saline nebs that helps a bit. But when I cough stuff up I have to like force it out. Mine doesn't taste like anything but when I have an infection and I cough something up I can taste the infection, sooooo gross!

I don't normally have a productive cough unless I'm sick. So its hard for my docs to get a regular sputum sample from me unless I'm sick. I find though that when I'm on the tail end of an infection the mucus is harder to come up, and sometimes doesn't always. I don't think that means that my meds aren't working.

I am pretty new to the mucus thing as my 4 year old has just recently figured out how to cough it up. She seems to cough up some each time she goes swimming and sometimes after physio. Once you start being able to bring up the mucus for a culture, do you still have to ungergo a yearly bronchoscopy?

Yearly bronchoscopy? Is it just me or do they do some weird things with the younger generation? Has anyone else heard of that?

ok I shall explain a little further....don't you just hate assuming everyone knows what you are talking about!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I guess with the little ones the aim these days is to keep them as healthy for as long as possible. Becasue they can't bring up their mucus they give them an annual bronchoscopy to check the culture. This allows them to check the lungs out and take a sample while they are under anaesthetic. My daughters culture showed pseudomonas when she was 5 months old so they admitted her to hospital before she actually got sick and erradicted it. She has also cultured staph which was found in the same process 2 years later and that too was erradicated.

I guess by the way you are all talking the bronchs will probably stop now. The girls have CF clinic in another week so Iwill ask then.
