mucus

I used to swallow it all of the time only because I was too lazy to spit it out. Now that I'm older and wiser,<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I try to spit it out as much as possible. ANd no matter how much you cough it out, the mucus will keep coming back because that's what CF is all about.

Obviously, coughing and spitting is the best way. But for small children that dont necessarily know how to cough/spit correctly, I asked our CF doc what would happen if Jae just swallowed the mucus. Which she used to do alot but has since gotten the hang of huffing in order to bring it out. He said it doesnt go back into the lungs but into the stomach and would be secreted in the stool. So, coughing it up or swallowing it, either way it is better than being in your lungs just sitting there festering bacterium.
