Hey all...how outrageous is this...

I was in the same school district from 1st grade until I graduted. I had no major problems with my cf other than the normal ones with school nurses, other kids, that sort of thing. Well, I just heard a news story about a girl who is no longer allowed to go on a field trip to washington DC with her school (my former junior high) because she has CF. Her mother has volunteered to go with her and her doctor said it was ok for her to go. The school district said no and RETURNED HER DEPOSIT that she already made for the trip. I'm going to try my best and call maybe the news station that showed the story and maybe the board of education and try and help her out. I went on all sorts of field trips with my cf and there were no problems. I even went all the way to disney world for a week with the marching band. I took everything I needed, it all fit on the bus, all my meds were dealt with, and I didn't even have a parent with me to make sure everything was ok. The fact that they won't let her go is appauling to me.

That's really disgusting. I went on my 8th grade Washington DC trip, nebs and all. I'd call the news too, that's ridiculous.

I went to Washington D.C. in the 5th grade w/my class and my mom just explained to the teacher that was going to be in the room with me how I was supposed to do everthing, so I got to go. However, all the other kids got to go swimming the hotel pool and the teacher wouldn't let me because she didn't really understand CF, so she thought I would get sick. Anyways, I agree that calling the news station would be a good idea.

Erin,

I think it's great that you are going to call the local news station. I went to NYC on a school trip. This is not something the girl should have to miss. Please post the news station and let us know if we can help by emailing or calling. I don't even think this is legal under the ADA, particularly since the mother is going to go.

Doesn't this violate the Americans with Diabilities Act, and isn't there some school law that says schools are to provide equal education for all, regardless of their didability? Get ahold of the ALCU! This is ridiculous and unfair!

Where's the legitimate reason to it!?
Sure ain't a security matter...

At least she's getting 100% back for her trip, the company I used to work at didn't give me back ANY of the money I spent for THEIR company trip!!

Hope things go well with your efforts to justify this!!
