A very large percentage (though not all) of men with CF are unable to have children the
'normal' way (something to do with the vas deferens). There are methods of extracting sperm etc., and adoption is also an option. There are several more scientific/informative threads running currently on the Adult and Family pages

my b/f has to take Pancrelipase before he eats and he has had to take it all of his life> He has a hard time remembering to take it still> We have been going out for over a half of a year and I try to remind him about taking it but I still am not use to it yet, are there any good ways of helping him remember or me anyways>

No, contrary to the above post it is NOT a 50/50 chance. 99.5% of all males with CF are infertile. Meaning that they can not have children the "traditional" way. Your boyfriend can be tested by ejaculating into a cup and having hte results run by a lab. There is a 99.5% chance that there will be no sperm in the results. That either means he has no Vas Deferns (a tube leading from the testicles to ejacultaion) or it is obstructed (one are the other are very common in CF males). But don't loose hope, there are always "non-traditional" methods of geting pregnant. Such as In-vetro, or ICSI (intro cytoplasmic sperm injection).

My husband (he has CF) and I are on a waiting list for this ICSI procedure. I will let this site know the outcome, so others can benefit from our experience.
Our expected wait is 9 months to even begin the procedure its self, so stay posted!

Technically their children can only "catch it" (which really isn't the correct term here) if the mother is also a carrier. He has CF, but that is entirely irrelevant if the mother doesn't carry CF. You need a gene from both the mother and the father in order to be born with CF.

just to back up what absinthesorrow said, you cannot catch cf. everyone that has cf was born with it, even if they weren't diagnosed until later in life.

i think its sad that boys with cf are generally infertile <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> does anyone know the chances for us girls?
i know that if both the mother and father are carriers of the cf gene their child has a 1 in 4 chance of being born with the condition.. which is why some people could have like 12 kids all with cf, or 12 all fine... or 12 with just 1 unlucky one. completely random 'luck of the draw'...
