My CF-savvy kid

I was doing my usual evening routine and Katy came and found me. She was beaming and had a piece of paper in her hand. "Look mom! I drew a picture of the mucus in my lungs!"

She was so excited, and I collected myself enough to smile, and I put my hands on her back and chest and pretended to vibrate her, and I said "And I'm your vest and I'm going to shake it out of you!" And we both had a good belly laugh.

I reserve the right to cry about this later. But right now, I choose to take this as a sign that our efforts to deal with CF head-on and matter-of-factly are paying off in the attitutudes of our girls.

What have your CF kids or siblings done lately? Share if you would like! "Cactus Boy" and "Sticky Mucus in the Carpet Girl" come to mind <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Have a great day!

Pretending to be a cactus to get out of his vest...

Oh and he LOVES those nasty mucinex commercials and I try to tell him that we need to get rid of those booger monsters, but he tells me no they're hungry and he has to feed them as he's digging for gold up his nose. Bleah!

I don't have a story, my daughter is too young to get it yet -- but I appreciate the stories. They make me smile, like only another parent of a CFer can!!! I look forward to reading them all!!!

Hi My son is 9 and he never said anything funny or drew any pictures, but what he does say is " I don't even know I have it sometimes" which makes me feel good. I think it's great we can laugh and be positive about it!

Ratatosk-
do you use the mucinex? If so how does it work for your child? I was just thinking about that today! Have a great day everyone!

Dain 9 w/CF

HeeHEe Hee! I still crack up thinking about "Mom, Emily coughed up some sticky mucus on the carpet!" In front of company, too, yet! I love that Katy drew her mucus. Isabelle is on drawing kick, too. I just love seeing what she's going to "intrepret" next. Thanks for sharing your story...and, yes, it is a testament to how well you are teaching her to deal with her cf. It is as much a part of her life as anything else she thinks of to draw. I think that's great!!! Good job, mom!

No, we don't use mucinex, he's just a weird child who likes watching the commercials and I tell him he has to do his vest to get them out of his lungs -- Also loves the nasty toe fungus monster who digs under the nails. Bleah!

Speaking of pictures -- DH got food poisoning last weekend and DS drew a picture of "daddy bomiting in the toilet" Took it to preschool this morning to show it off to his teachers.

My Ahava doesn't have CF (obviously) but she is CF savvy. One time, she was about 2ish, she walked into our room while I was giving Ry physio, scowled and said "Ima! It's not nice to hit!" When she was little like that, Ry gave her an old neb cup, because she wanted to do it with him lol.

Later on in life, she was playing house with a boy she knew and insisted that the husband had to get 'beaten' at night.

Now, some of her stuffed animals get cystic fibrosis and various other ailments. I know, she's weird, but I wouldn't haev her any other way.
