My CF sister...

Jenny, I am so sorry. I, too, have a little sister with CF and I worry about if this day will come for us. So far we've always cultured the same things, but one day that all could change. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Thank you, Everyone, for your support. This year hasn't been the best year so far for my family. For me, things are starting to level out; however, I can't say that for the rest of my family. All of your kind words are appreciated.

Mike & Blake - I want to share something with you. Jake and I bought our 'long-term' home in November 2007. Well, we decided to host Christmas dinner at our new home. We invited Jess and Alex. Of course, she was not looking or sounding too good, but it was Christmas. I also wanted her to see our new home.

Well, I could see that she wasn't feeling well and had a fever. She should have told me but didn't. I didn't appreciate her exposing me to whatever was going on. She hadn't seen her CF doctor in over 3 years!!!

She ended up leaving our home right after dinner. Five days later, she was admitted into the hospital with bluish finger and toenails. Her FEV1 was 38%.

Thankfully, I didn't give her MRSA; however, I didn't feel 'right' about 1 weeks after the visit. She was already in the hospital. Then, I got a cold which didn't help. I ended up on IVs for 3 weeks as she was coming off on them.

I'm not saying she made me sick; however, I usually don't even need antibiotics to overcome a cold. All of a sudden, I needed IVs. Thankfully, I am not culturing anything new. She only has regular Stap and PA. Nothing serious. Since that day, we have only remained in contact by phone.

Just be careful!!!

Julie - As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't until Jess and I were in our teens that things got hairy. Jess would catch colds and get over them without needing anything. Not me. I would catch everything and need antibiotics. Thankfully, that has changed.

We were exposed to the same environments so things were 'safe'. Our CF doctor wasn't concerned. However, once we got married and left the nest, it was a whole different ball game. Now, the risks went up. I decided to become a Medical Assistant and managed to contract MRSA on the job. That was the end of my career and any 'normal' sense of family relations. Once your children leave the nest and/or contract different bugs in their chests, things get hairy.

This is really tragic for a family who is so close. The thing you need most is to be close to your sister, the one who really understands the illness.

So far my boy culture the same things, but if it happens that they need to stay apart, it will be devistating for them, and us.

I am so sorry Jenny.
