My Child Resemble a Salt Lick

I should've taken a picture before I washed DS's baseball cap last night. It's supposed to be a purple Colorado Rockies had, except it was gradually turning white -- coated with SALT! I was afraid deer were going to chase after him and try to lick his hat <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Earlier this year I sent a salt shaker to preschool, along with a reminder about making sure he gets LOTS of water and salt.

Previous summers, I noticed along his hairline he'd sometimes get salt crystals -- otherwise his hair would be stiff with what I assumed was dried sweat. I'm just AMAZED at how much salt he must lose daily and a reminder to maybe start carrying salt packets in my purse and car.

Yikes! Maggie doesn't get sweaty usually, it's wierd she immediately turns bright red in her face in warm weather and starts overheating. Me, my husband, and son however sweat bucketloads. We were at a minor league baseball game in warm weather last week and the snack stand ran out of those big , soft pretzels covered with salt. Maggie had her grandfather search all over for a pretzel(which likely cost $5) proceded to eat all the salt off the pretzel but not eat any of the actual pretzel. Then handed me a slimey pretzel without salt and said all done, you can have it mom. Gee thanks. I too thought, I need to just keep salt packets in my purse, much cheaper.

My son is 12 weeks old (and sweats a TON for his age!)... and i am just curious what the importance is of salt? he will NOT take ANYTHING that has salt in it!! I put a little in his bottle and he wont eat. i put it on his tongue and he spits it out. i try to put it in the baby food i give him his enzymes with, and he spits it right out. this kid will NOT take salt!! any suggestions??

I would try juice. I know that your pediatrician will probably die if he/she finds out; but it adds calories and sodium to their diet. If Toby likes the juice, you can try to add salt to it. My daughter loves juice! It's a great way to keep her hydrated and keep her stools regular.
