to add to the snacks and drinks department...i would take a little mini cooler (i know sounds werid, but you want a COLD drink right?). word search, if you know if the room you will be in has a dvd player take some dvd's. if you're getting a picc line take your own plastic baggies and tape to cover it to take a shower. oh and your vest, unless you prefer people beating you, me...i prefer the vest (they always hurt me when they beat me, maybe cause i'm so boney). hope you feel better soon!!!

Socks (my feet get cold, lol), slippers or comfy slip on shoes...books...spare change/money (newspaper or craving for something out of the vending machine?) and yes, food, lots of food, lol.

Oh and ...I bring a soft stuffed animal, lol. It's nice to snuggle with (no kitties in the bed at the hospital ) and it usually ends up as an IV/picc prop for sleeping at night .

Hi SaltyAndSweet,

Sorry to hear you're going in! What a bummer. I know how it is when the extra help and care is just what you need. I hope you start to get some rest and feel better soon. Everyone has really already mentioned things I bring, but to reiterate, I always like to think of all my most comfy things, pjs, socks, hairdryer, shampoo/conditioner, etc, and practically all my tshirts for during the day. After about 3 days when I start feeling better I don't like to sit around in my pjs all day b/c I start to feel like a bum, so wear comfy tshirts and sweat pants or jeans. I always bring my laptop and if I have enough time to plan - I bring stuff for a project (usually computer/artistic related), a few books and magazine to waste time.

If your gut is telling you that you need extra care, help and sleep to get over this exacerbation, then that's probably exactly what you need. Feel better soon!

I will just list my whole list, even the obvious stuff since that's the stuff you always forget!

Clothes/underwear/socks
Shoes/slippers
pillow
medicines (enzymes, prandin/insulin, tylenol, nexium, puffers etc - not EVERYTHING, just PRN sort of stuff)
qtips, shampoo/soap, razor, toothpaste/toothbrush (if you don't want to use their stuff)
comb/brush, hair scrunchee/headband
paper/pen
phone/PDA/Laptop
something to do: knitting, book, sudoku, gameboy, etc
FOOD! snacks and drinks, mainly

Hmm I think that's all. Pretty much I pack for the hospital like I would for a vacation. If I happen to be too sick to use all the stuff when I first get there, then I still bring it to look forward to for later. It's just easier to bring comforts of home than have someone have to get them for you later. I do set out an extra stack of clothes at home though, somewhere conspicuous. That way if my stay gets extended, it's easy for someone to go grab me some new clothes.

Hope you feel better!
