My Neighbor's Second Hand Smoke

The smoke has probably damaged the wall by now and it's going to smell like that forever.

I know there is a paint you can get which will block out he smoke smell. Landlords use it when they have a renter who smokes. It is very expensive, though.

I'd get a contractor out there to determine if the wall really is smoke damaged, and how much it will cost to fix. Since you're frinds with them, you can ask your neighbors to pay for the costs of repairs. If they don't agree, you may need to consider bringing a lawsuit against your neighbor.

I'm not sure if all states are the same, but I know a few years back somebody filed a lawsuit for the exact same thing here in Colorado and won. See if you can get some free legal advice. Talk Radio Stations will usually have some sort of legal help show you can call into. Otherwise, there's a really good resource at www.troubleshooter.com (it's based in Colorado, though.)

Also, here's an article on getting rid of cigarette smoke damage: http://www.howtogetridofstuff....igarette-smoke-damage/ Just to warn you; you're not going to like what it says.

Also, here is an article about Property damage and liability: http://www.respect-ala.org/drift_copingwithsmoke.htm Although this article is about abratment buildings, I think it can still apply to you. Your town house is your private property, and you have a right for it not to be damaged.

Anyway, i hope your neighbors agree to pay for damages without a lawsuit, but if they don't it's going to be very expensive for you to pay for it all on your own. Even if you just decide to move away, you're still paying for it because cigarette smoke damage really decreases property value.
