My teeth are gross...

Sometimes people can get thrush after being on a lot of antibiotics, especially when using inhalers as well. It might be worth having your doctor see if this is what's causing the white coating on your tongue. Just a thought... Also, warm water rinses with baking soda and salt could help. I don't have much advice for the teeth whitening, though. Good luck!
I rinse with hydrogen peroxide. Make sure you do not have any sores or open gums because it will burn and make sure you do the h202 before you brush otherwise you can get open gums etc. YOu can cut the h202 with water to lessen the effect.I would also look nutritionally, vitamin D, probiotics etc. when you are out of balance your mouth gets gross.

Not quite related but my teeth aren't nearly as white as I would like. I live in a fairly "rural" area and I can't tell you how often someone just assumes that I dip based on my teeth. It almost seems to be related to how I'm doing overall with health though, the healthier I get the seemingly whiter my teeth are but that doesn't make any sense.
I also have awful breath a lot of the time. I'm pretty sure its not breath its straight from my lungs and its my lungs that stink because it isn't bad breath smell. It almost smells like something dead when something breaks loose in my lungs. I just keep suger free gum with me all the time. I don't really even like gum and certainly don't want to encourage tooth decay by chewing sugar gum and grind that sugar into my teeth but gotta do something to deal with the breath.

One of my best cf friends had very bad teeth from Tetracycline used on her when she was a child. In her early 20s she had her teeth capped - just like nearly all movie stars do - and she had beautiful white teeth for the rest of her life - nearly thirty additional years.

If I had really bad teeth I would look into getting them capped - but by a SPECIALIST in capping, rather than just a regular dentist. Capping is a difficult skill and most general dentists don't do very much of it. The BIG downsides to capping are that it is fairly painful to have done and takes a long time, and it is very expensive.

44 yo male DDF508 CFRD since '04 (and enzyme sufficient since I began using insulin!) Yellowish teeth, but probably more from coffee than antibiotics and nebulizers.

My teeth were also just like you all described, especially my front teeth. Yellowish, worn out enamel, etc. I ended up getting porcelain veneers on my six front teeth. What a difference. If you can afford to have this done, I would say go for it. But as David said, any sort of capping, veneers, etc is very painful. All the pain was worth it for me though in the end.

There is no CURE for the damage once it is done and as many have already stated there are a plethora of medications that damage enamel.

I had severely yellowish brown teeth that slowly progressed over time. It was the one thing I was self conscience about beyond coughing or mucus or anything! The only option is to have all your teeth, or at least the visible unsightly ones, CROWNED or veneers as Summer said. I underwent my front 6 teeth being completely ground down to "chicklets" and porcelin crowns put over them almost 5 years ago. I couldn't have veneers because my teeth were too "weak" to hold the veneers. My teeth LOOK amazing and I get compliments on my smile daily, but that procedure meant drilling THROUGH 2 of the crowns when I bumped a glass on my teeth causing internal root breakage. It's definitely a choice. I love my "new" teeth and was well worth the procedure.
This is simply inaccurate and an ignorant statement. You canactuallycause new roots and teeth to grow with ultrasonic stimulation and use of pure Xylitol. It will also replenish enamel as well. It takes a while but does work. I have started to see a crack in my tooth fill and go away using Xylitol by itself.

I have never had problems with my teeth, -so far, as I am very diligent with them, I really do floss everyday, and brush twice a day, I also have a tongue scraper and use fluoride infused mouthwash, and BreathRX mouthwash which are excellent .

I also chew alot of sugar free mint gum all the time, esp. after meals, with Xylitol, and never drink sodas or candy.

Gum chewing is also good for the sinuses if you have sinus problems from CF, it opens up the sinus and ears.

They only thing I do have is a tiny chip on my front tooth,- and I am convinced that was from bumping myself with a neb in my mouth !

Always rinse after any steroid inhaler use,- as for the yellowing, try a whiting toothpaste, I have been on tetracycline antibiotics, -although not when I was a child,- and studies show these do weaken tooth enamel and discoloration when taken long term/ as a child, -but not usually as an adult....
