NAC

I've recently started taking oral NAC (N-acetylcysteine). The name on the box is PharmaNAC and they are 900 mg tablets that you dissolve in water and drink twice a day. Since I've started taking these, I've noticed that I get very bad, painful indigestion and I bloat like crazy. But not always! I'm trying to keep track of what foods I'm eating to see if there's any correlation but haven't found any yet. I'm just wondering if this happens to anyone else and what you have done to help the side effect? Tums don't help and I've tried cutting the dose to once a day, but the stomach issues still occur randomly. I don't want to have to stop taking it altogether. Any suggestions??

I use those as well and I don't get those side effects. I know others who take it as well who haven't experienced those side effects either.

hope you feel better

That happened to me too when I was on NAC (same dose). Not often, but seemingly connected to the NAC. I suspected it was an empty-stomach issue, but I am not sure. I often used it before exercising so it really sucked to be walking/jogging and get indigestion.

I stopped taking it and some other stuff only to give myself a break. I want to add these meds back one at a time and slowly. I haven't stopped the prescription inhalers and meds, just the supplement-ish stuff.

Do tell if you figure out what it is linked with.

I take NAC CAPSULES. One 600mg. with each meal. Works great. Ask your doctor if this would be better for you. Whatever makes the NAC fizz could be upsetting your stomach.
