Nails and Pseudomonas

Hi all...whoa...the reason that I did not make this post on Haley's blog was for this reason...I absolutely would never want to make anyone feel bad for wanting to look good and the feelings that goes with that...her nails are beautiful...and what an exciting day....I would never want to diminish that...I apologize

...that being said...I will say this...adults with CF...and CF parents...are looking at things from different perspectives...you are old and wise enough to make your own decisions...be we as parents have to make those decisions now...and I am just trying to give my daughter the best foundation for her health as possible...and if there is the slightest chance that nails are the reason she cultured PA than I am not wearing them again...simple as that...

in addition...I remember reading...artificial nails were worse that real nails because they "lift" and that where most of the bacteria is trapped and it's the perfect moist breeding ground...also...I think that most healthcare facilities now impose a certain length on real nails too...

I was just trying to offer some well-intended advice...

I am really glad you mention this. Thanks for the info; I'm always looking for ways to cut back exposure to bacteria when possible!

should we all cut our nails to the skin? to where absolutely nothing can get under them. i think it is imposible to stay germ free and if you are gonna pick up a bacteria of sort you can pick it up anywhere.

i would hate to live my life thinking of every little thing that would cause me to pick up a new bug. i live my life like i want to and do anything i want to. i think i've had PA for the last hmmmm...seven years. oh thats my senior year, prom, oh the last time i got fake nails. but lets see i cultured PA way before that too and i don't think i was wearing acrylic nails in the fourth grade <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"></end quote></div>

If I found out that long real nails caused bacterial growth, I would cut them back that far; they simply don't matter to me. That's the nice thing about being informed by coming to this site, everyone can pick and choose what dangers they wish to expose themselves to. Noone can live 100% entirely in a bubble and completely compliant. Anyway the point of this thread wasn't "You can only get PA from fake nails" as you seem to suggest, it was rather to inform people that didn't know "Hey, you can get PA from fake nails - just a head's up."

Perhaps your guilty passion is going to smoke filled bars, or skipping a treatment here and there or ... getting your nails done. The point is, there are dangers in all of those, noone denies that, but people draw the line for themselves for what makes them happy. I can especially see how doing something for the benefit of your child would make it rather easy to give up - as it seems to be for bluebelle.

Thanks for posting this.
