I have had colonized PA for at least half my life if not longer so I dont worry about it anymore.</end quote></div>

Do you worry about picking up new strains that may have different suseptabilities to various classes of antibiotics?</end quote></div>

I have already had various strains with different suseptabilities, but to answer your ??....NO

I don't get acrylics often... I've only ever done them before 3 proms, before HS graduation, and before 1 cruise. But you better believe I'm doing them, PA or not, before my wedding. My nails are terrible, they chip and peal and tear, and never get longer than the edge of my fingertips. I'll endure the added risk of PA with the nails... in order to have nice nails for my wedding.

gee wiz...didn't know i was going to start a new topic. i took my bridal portraits today (whole reason i got my nails) and they are gonna be damn good. i don't understand what the difference is in real nails and acrylic nails. if your real nails are as long as the acrylic what the problem. the bacteria and dirt is under your real nail not the acrylic.

should we all cut our nails to the skin? to where absolutely nothing can get under them. i think it is imposible to stay germ free and if you are gonna pick up a bacteria of sort you can pick it up anywhere.

i would hate to live my life thinking of every little thing that would cause me to pick up a new bug. i live my life like i want to and do anything i want to. i think i've had PA for the last hmmmm...seven years. oh thats my senior year, prom, oh the last time i got fake nails. but lets see i cultured PA way before that too and i don't think i was wearing acrylic nails in the fourth grade <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

hbollotte,

I don't think it's the length of the nails or what gets under them that is the issue -- is has more to do with the space between the real and fake nail (and edges) that is where the bacteria grow
