Nebulized antibiotics

We have always been told its not a good idea to use them without a filter. Depending on the drug your using it can also do things such as rot your curtains.

Wow--rot your curtains! I never knew this stuff was so powerful! It does do bad things to my car windows/windshield definitely. I always watch the road through neb-glazed glass.

This is an interesting topic--definitely a new thought to me.

My spouse is an RT, and when they nebulize things like Tobramycin/Tobi, they make sure others are out of the room. I think it has something to do with becoming resistant to it when you're exposed to it and you don't need it. I honestly don't think it creates that big of a problem and I let my kids in the room with me when I neb.

I hope it's not dangerous. My boyfriend is in the room with me most of the time that I do my nebs. I have been joking with him that he now has veeeery healthy lungs, becasue he inhales my medication... It never occured to me that it might be dangerous.

When DD nebs tobi we turn on the air cleaner in her room. We were told that someone can inhale it in the air and build up a resistant. We have just always done it that way since we were taught to do it in the hospital.

I had never heard this, although Shelby does her nebs with the air purifier on like Cheryl's daughter. I'm kind of disappointed. She has been on TOBI twice and I sat next to her while she did it.(She's 10 but only diagnosed at 9, so still learning everything) Inhaling the second-hand TOBI helped me also. I have very bad sinuses and some lung issues so for the first time in 10 years I was able to breathe well. Oh well, such is life.

Unless there is someone in the room who has a hard time with that particular neb, I don't think that filtering is worth it. I think it's annoying...harder to get a good deep breath. That said, I have heard of, but never met anyone, with severe allergies to TOBI. I also had an RT who would sneeze like crazy when I did Pulmozyme, but that's the only problem I've ever found.

Lol I wouldn't worry too much about it. When I was a kid I always did all my treatments in the living room and my sisters grew up just fine; in fact my little sister is extraordinarily bright.

They rarely get sick too.
