Nebulizer Parts and Sterilization??

We used to get a huge bag of nebulizers from our RT at the clinic, but our clinic no longer is allowed to accept samples from drug and equipment companies. So we now have to buy our own.

<br />I've purchased extras from various companies. The biggy is making sure you're not paying excessive shipping. Think my last batch was from planet rx, though have purchased from other companies as well. Out of pocket, not thru insurance.

We started pulmozyme when are son was six months. I only had got two from our RT at clinic. I BOILED EVERY NIGHT at that point (I like two days of drying). Well, my husband was nuts with my in the kitchen every night. I went online and order 6 more sets plus six hard pari plastic masks. Best money I ever spent. From then on I have always had 8 sets, when I get down to my last 2...I boil again! So much better.

I wash them with hot soapy water. Sit on a big platter. Get my big stock pan boiling, and then add nebs/mask. 10 min later take them out of the boiling water and place them on a lined cookie sheet and place them in the oven. Ohh and I recenlty started started the oven to 170 and letting them "bake" for ten minutes. Then I turn off the oven. Then they sit for two days in the oven. Then I put them in new zip lock bags.

Ohhh and I place a big goofy magnet on the oven to alarm us that the nebs are in there.......Worst....Worst thing is to warm up the oven and mealt all your hard work and money.

The only problem I have had with boiling my pari nebs, is that the rubber flap seems to lose integrity and falls apart. This may be because it is old though. Does any one else have this problem?

I've only just started boiling my nebs every evening. It used to be fine to just throw them in a bowl with some white vinegar, but I have been told that you should wash em with soap, and either a.) Boil them, b.) put them in the dishwasher, or c.) bleach them.

What I do is I (try) to boil them after each use for about 1-3 minutes. I then throw them in a bowl with bleach until my next use to keep them clean. When I go to use them, I wash them off thoroughly.

It takes about 15- 20 minutes - then I prepeare the inahaltion . After We're finished I just put them under running water and back into the strilizer. Then sterilize the parts again just before use.
It makes sence to me and is easier then boiling up with washing liquid for 6-10 minutes or using sterylization chemicals like Sekusept.
I was also told that sterilization is only possible in temperatures above 70 celsius or by using chemicals - specilized or bleach.
A baby bottle strerilizator is really easy in use and convenien.
