My son Ben is 3 months old. He has always been a hungry guy but we did have to add rice cereal to his bottles to help ease the hunger. Our dietician has us put 2tsp. of single grain rice cereal for every 6 ounces. It has fattened him up as well his last weigh in at his regular doc was a little over the 50th percentile. Good luck!

I know I don't post here very much (hardly ever) but wanted to ask:

Has she maintained her percentile? or is she dropping percentiles? How big are you and her dad? My son (who doesn't have CF) was/is always around 20/25%. But he doesn't have big genes to work with. I am 5'5 and so is my husband. A happy baby who IS gaining is not something I would worry too much about. Is she meeting her milestones?

And what is wrong with grazing? Many babies do this. My guess is that she won't eat more if you hold her off (I'm guessing that she's eating more frequently than every 3 hours?) and it will make her unhappy. And if she has reflux, grazing is a better solution for her anyway, isn't it -smaller more frequent meals? Just remember, health professionals don't know everything. You know your daughter better than anyone else. I have been told some pretty inaccurate things by the dietitian at my CF clinic. Granted she knows a lot about nutrition but like I said, she doesn't know everything.

With Caleb, my 10 month old, I would add some formula into the applesauce that we used for his enzymes. That way I knew he would get those extra calories in no matter if he breastfed alot or not. I am not sure if rice cereal has more calories, but if it does, you could try ading that to the applesauce instead.
Flax seed oil might be a good thing to put into his bottle. Caleb now gets it in his mushed veggies and he does great with it. It is great for those young brains and adds some good fat to the tummy.

Your baby is so lucky to have you. Most CF teams knows a lot but not everything. My husband and I usually listen to the team and then come up with a plan of lets try some of our own ideas, or those on this forum and then go with what works the best for our kids.

Blessings,
Missa

My son hasn't been gaining weight the last couple of months either. We are hoping it was due to the the recurent pneumonia and the tummy bug he had.

We have mixed his formula to 24 calories an ounce since he was diagnosed and also thicken with Simply Thick (1/2 honey, 1/2 nectar, Crazy I know) and feed about every 3 hours (we add rice cereal to the last bottle of the day). At the last clinic visit the RD suggested adding yogurt to the formula. It's adding calories plus it's replacing 1/2 of the simply thick. He is taking his bottles alot better now. I use a vanilla flavored yogurt but she said I could use any smooth yogurt. They also upped his enzymes. He gets 2 Pancreacarb MS-8 with just a bottle and 2 MS-8 plus 1 MS-4 with a bottle and baby/table food. I hope it is working. Although they havent mentioned a feeding tube yet I know it is coming if he hasnt gained. We will find out at the end of this month and I will let you know.

P.S -I also couldnt help but notice that our kids have the same mutation.
