I have a sibling with CF (princessjdc). While I was pregnant with my first child I found out that both my husband and I are both carriers of CF. Our child is now 2 years old-without CF. We are now thinking about having our second child, however we are concerned about the chances of the child having CF. I was looking for some feed back, inspirations, anything regarding us having another child.

Wow, that's a really tough decision. In my case, we had decided that if DH was a carrier, we would adopt. But since I have cf, my chances of having a child w/cf would be higher than yours, plus I was scared about passing bugs to him/her, etc. I guess you just really need to decide whether or not you can handle having a child with cf. Financially, emotionally, etc. Even though it's only a 25% chance I guess you should prepare for the worst possible scenario just in case. If it were me? I'd probably take that chance to be honest. It's an extremely personal decision though. I'm certainly glad that my parents had me, and they went on to have 2 healthy children after me too.

The only way to 'weed out' the CF genes is through IVF. Sadly, that costs at least $12,000!

The choice is yours...You know what your sister goes through day-to-day so at least you have your feet wet. If you decide to take the chance, you should try and prepare yourself for the worst.

My parents took the chance TWICE. Both my sister and I have CF!!! So yes, I am somewhat bitter about the whole subject.

However, I also realize that most people don't have $12,000 laying around for IVF either...I wish you the best with your decision. I'm glad that you came here to find out more about the whole topic. I commend you for that!!! I'm sorry if I came out too strongly. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

This is a tough decision. Me and my wife mad a similair one with IVF. Although we couldn't afford to have her tested to see if she was a carrier.

Ultimately we decided it was in God's hands not ours and left it at that. Yes we do have choices these days some easier and some harder.
