Need for Better Searching capabilities

Not sure where to advocate for features, but these forums need better searching ability, or even for the existing advanced search to work resonably well. There is so much informatioin here in this forum datebase and everytime I try to find something from the past it is next to impossible.
Tonight I was trying to search for topics posted for a certain month, and I can't even type into the date fields to create my date range. If I type for a word that I know is in the posts I am looking for it is not found. I never have any luck with the search.
Anyone else get this search to work well, or is it just me?

Coming from another forum (non-CF related) that has the worst search feature in the world hands down, this one is quite good. It's actually one of the few things about this forum software that I do like. It sounds like you just don't have enough data and that your search criteria is to vague. You may try to use google to search the forum with better luck.

i struggle to find things on the search too, particularly if it's more than one word.

I have the exact same problem. I have to enter it twice. Then what I'm searching for doesn't come up, although I am 100% certain it is on the forum somewhere! Strange. Since Frank isn't having any problems maybe we are doing something wrong?

If you guys can post some examples of things you are trying to find, I will see what I can do... if I can't find them I'll talk with Ennio to see if we can improve the search function for you guys. Give me as much detail as you can please.

Well, I was searching for a thread from about a year ago on Combined insurance, the hospital sickness policy. I was pretty sure it was created in March of 2011, and pretty sure it was created by Julie. I've tried to search it a number a ways, with no luck. I then tried google as you suggested and found it in 5 seconds. :)

I believe the problem is that the search is only looking at titles not content for word match. Your example of the Combined Insurance post is a great one. Nearly every post mentions "Combined" but the title has the words "Hospital Indemnity" and nothing about Combined so it is not coming up. The search capability used to have the ability to select "Title" or "Message (or was it body?)" or "Both.' Could we get this feature back Ennio?

I entered as a search keyword 'indemnity' and selected display as TOPIC, not message, and got back a short list of thread titles.
Eta> sorry... Tried to post a link to the search results, but it was not a valid URL. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I think the point is Harriett that we can't find posts by words in message only title. Indemnity is in the title so that will pop it up but if all a person could remember is Combined Insurance which was in the body they should also be able to search which they are not currently able to do. A previous rev of the site allowed this type of searching.
