Our daughter is 10 months old and was diagnosed with CF at 1 month through Colorado newborn screening process. she has been eating enzymes with baby food for 9 months with no problem. Suddenly this past week she has developped aversion to spoon feeding of any kind. Therefore it has been almost impossible to get enzymes into her. We used soda crackers, which she likes, but as soon as baby food is on there, she starts batting it away and crying. We have had to hold her mouth open to get enzymes into her, but we are terrified that this is creating an eating disorder. We need a better solution. Ironically, she has no problem eating her formula (increased calorie) in her bottle and is the only thing that she is eating besides hotdogs (ABC or small pieces) and soda crackers for last couple days. I have read about peanut butter on other forums, but how do you determine if they have allergy or not? Any other ideas for infant with only 2 teeth on bottom jaw? Also looking for any other high calorie foods?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Regards from Worried Dad ( Patrick).

We always use applesauce when giving enzymes. We were told by our docs that it aids the enzymes in digestion. Have you fed her any mashed potatoes? You can mix it with whole milk, butter & add some cheese for extra fat...your suppose towait unitl she is one for whole milk, though so you may make her some with her formula....I try to keep instant potatoes around in case my potatoes go bad before i use them...my daughter loves them.....we also fed my daughter oatmeal...back tothe applesauce, we buy the 6 pack from the stores in a variety of flavors...we watch out for sales & buy several @ a time.....i can keep one in her diaper bag, so when we are eating out or she needs a snack I have one handy...the variety of flavors help to change it up....hope this helps!

DS did that with applesauce -- HATED it, but did well with pureed bananas. I've used chocolate syrup, grape jelly, pancake syrup.... Have you placed an enzyme capsule in her mouth and followed it with a drink of something.

Do you think she dislikes babyfood? When DS turned 6 months, his CF doctor told us to just grind up whatever we're eating -- babyfood is low in fat and salt, so he'd be better off eating regular food. So his daycare just ground up everything finally, we'd grind up some of our food, but he actually preferred baby food, so we doctored it up -- added salt and butter. Maybe she just wants something with more FLAVOR <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Good luck. Feeding has go to be the most frustrating part for us. Yesterday we spent most of the holiday with relatives -- DS drank milk for breakfast, ate a handful of cheetos and life cereal, followed by a banana and half a dozen goldish crackers -- that's IT. He wasn't hungry, he was full! Toddlers Argh!
