Ok I sucked it up and bought one today. Looks pretty cool! But I can't get the ater to run through to the other nostril! I had to stop because I kept choking on the liguid eww!! I leand my head forward and pointed the nostril not with the pot in it down. It filled my nose and then went down the back of my throat! I stopped and blew my nose and EWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Does this mean my polyps are too big or that I am doing it wrong? I feel alot clearer even though it didn't work and run through.

Any suggestions from when you first started sinus rinses?

Using a NetiPot can be tricky for sinus irrigation. It's hard to lean forward far enough and to the side far enough to make things drain properly. Sounds like your technique is fine, it's just your anatomy isn't working to your advantage. Usually people who have rhinitis use NetiPots. For CFers, especially those with polyps or other issues (for example, during one of my surgeries the doctors cut me a brand new sinus cavity below where the usual one is.)

Here's an article I wrote about nasal irrigation. I never got the hang of a NetiPot, and I use SaltAire instead.

I had the same problem, it just takes practise. One day you'll just 'get it' and it's plain sailing after that. I put my head pointed down and then turn it and then put the pot in. Breathe through the mouth and you should be fine, good luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Here is the best how-to video I've found.

One thing you might not be doing is keeping your mouth open. Be sure you keep your mouth open a little and breathe through your mouth slowly and evenly - don't try to suck any air/water through your nose, just let it flow.

Another thing might be that your sinuses are too clogged for the water to go through just yet. I had this problem too for a couple days, just keep doing it and eventually it will go through. Make sure you alternate sides too, to try to rinse it both ways.
