New Addition to Our Family

I got a new cat! Chad and I got the cat from my cousin's wife. She just didnt have the time and attention to give the cat. The kitty is about 10 months old. She weighs 6.7 lbs. The first day, I took her to the Vet to get her examined, sprayed (help control the pet population! plus she was in heat and really loud), and get her rabies shot. I did not declaw her. She was brought home that night. She took to us pretty good. I let her out of the Utility Room (Dr's orders until she was familiar with her surroundings) and let her roam the house a little. She is now sitting beside me in the chair, watching tv and purring. So, I think she has taken to her new home just fine . We named her Piper.

Here is her picture

I still have the two cats I posted pics of a while ago, but they live at my mom's house. Piper lives at our new house.

Thanks

She is sweet...and a little subborn. She doesnt come to us when we call her. She just looks at us like we have lost our minds and walks the opposite direction. We are trying to train her, and I guess she is trying to train us. lol.

Any one got any advice on how to get a cat to come when called? I've never had this problem. I've called her by name and kitty...also bribed with treats. The treats worked after I went to her, walked away, called again, give treat, repeat...until I got her in the chair. I dont want the treat thing to become a habit. When we go up to her, she purrs and rubs again our legs. So, she likes us, I'm pretty sure. Other than not coming when called, she is doing good.

Oh, and she doesnt really liked to be held. She wiggles a lot when we pick her up. We've gotta work on that too. Anyone got advice for that?

I am a total cat person. I've had a few bad experiences when I was younger with dogs, so I've been afraid of dogs most of my life. It's gotten a lot better, but there are a few dogs I'm still afraid of being around. We hope to get a Boston Bull Terrier in the spring. DS really wants one.
