Ditto to what everyone else has said - insurance paid monthly, they called to check the hours I used it, and to make sure I was "happy" with it, and haven't had any problems so far getting replacement vests, etc. I would just call them and let them know that it has arrived.

On my vest, the counter shows up on the screen when it is off. "Total use: 742.7 hours." Good grief, lol.

I've been using the settings that Amy (sakasuka) has in her blog, and that has helped. The higher settings take a good bit of getting used to though, even for someone who has had a vest for...15 years .

Just out of curiousity, did you get the 104 or the 105? (*crosses fingers for the 105*). I have a 104, so it's not programable (for running through the different settings without me changing them manually).

Oh, I forgot- I wrote the settings down on a piece of masking tape, and put it on the front of my machine, along with the instructions for pressure setting- helps me to remember what they are supposed to be .

I just wanted to add that I have a Hill Rom and I absolutely love the company. I haven't used another vest but the service they offer is awesome. Whenever I break something they are more than happy to send out a new part immediately, no questions asked (just like tbw18 mentioned).

I once knew a girl that used the flutter AND vest at the same time, she said it's what made her cough the most. Of course the doctors thought she was nuts, but do whatever works best for you. Usually people do use aerosols at the same time as the vest, for convenience and effectiveness. One rep did tell me that using the vest without an aerosol is actually BAD because it dries out your airways, but noone since then has mentioned that. Hope it works well for you!

My doc never mentioned the Respirtech to me either. I heard about it when I flew to see Warwick in Minnesota and he showed me how it brings up more sputum than the HillRom 103 and 104 (although if you have to have a HillRom, the 103 is better than the 104).

You can read more about the science of it on my blog if you would like.

For me, if I'm going to spend an hour a day doing something, I'm going to make sure I'm using the best machine possible. I just invest too much time in caring for this disease to not have the best medicine has to offer.
