FIRST find out your insurance company's appeal process policy. I am fighting mine to get an insulin pump. I appealed the first time with only a letter from my doctor which was not enough, I was denied again. If I only knew, my doctor could have had a peer-to-peer chat with the doc or medical adviser who is making the decision on behalf of your insurance company. Also I would have known that a second opinion from another doctor could have helped.
So I highly advise you check with your insurance company to see what is needed for an appeal BEFORE you go for it. But definitely appeal.

Hill rom should fight for you. They fought ours for a year and then gave up and sent us papers to see if we could qualify for assistance paying for it. Granted Tanner was just getting his first vest. He is 11 now but we started this about 2 years ago. After reading on here I decided to try the respirtech vest. I told them up front that Hill Rom was having trouble with insurance - but if I was going to have to pay anything I wanted to shop around. Tanner seemed to like the respirtech one better. So they started to deal with insurance and within a couple of months it was approved - wow I didn't think it would be - but I couldn't understand why we kept getting denied and others with CF got one. I even called my insurance and was so upet and even crying wanting them to explain that to me. They said he hadn't been that sick - I said "yep and we want to keep it that way and 99% of CF is preventative care" - I was so mad! Anyway the whole process did take about 1 1/2 years but Hill rom let us use it the whole time.
