A couple of questions...what model was your old vest? What model is the one you have now? Hillrom should be able to verify with your insurance that your old one isn't in working order.

Also, if your old one isn't working properly, Hillrom should be replacing it with a new one (lifetime warranty) or repairing it.

If you have a 103 or 104 and are trying to get an upgrade (to a 104 or 105), then that may be the hang up (I assume that is the case, since the price is only (only? haha) $6,000. Hillrom won't give you a 104 or 105 replacement for a defective unit until the 103s and 104 are no longer available.

Soooo...you can either take what Hillrom will replace your old defective vest compressor with, or fight for the upgrade- but like everyone has said, Hillrom should be taking care of that for you.

Also, Hillrom has a program for people who can't afford the vest/copays- you might see if you qualify for that. We did .

My doctors office was previously told by hillrom rep that thye have yet to get a single company to cover the cost to an upgraded model (this is our areas rep); they can get companies to cover your first one but NOT an upgrade. I was told the upgrade out of pocket would be $3000 not $6000 so not sure where that # is coming from.

We were planning to use a health care savings account to cover the upgrade before I foudn out that I coudl get a NEW respirtech covered. Because my insuracne company did not know I had previously had a hillrom (purchased by another company) where if I tried to get an upgraded hillrom 105 the hillrom people legally had to divulge that I had a currently working system. It is very unfortunate that is was this way because they ended up shelling out more money this way but I wante dthe superior product of the respirtech anyway.

Now if I misunderstood you and your vest was truly not working well in that case the hillrom folks should replace your unit like for like at no charge.

Either way the hillrom folks should do your bidding, that is their JOB. And if it doesnt work you should be abl eto get the old one back.
