hey guys, i just got diagnosed with diabetes, and this has been my first week on insulin. its SO much maintainance! i'm used to it b/c of the cf, but WOW. aside from the fact that my fingertips feel like pin cushions, as do my emotions. any tips on how you guys cope?

hey, i was diagnosed a few years ago and i know how you feel. it seems impossible to handle at first, but don't worry! you will get used to it quickly and it won't seem like such a big deal. do you alternate what finger you prick when you take your blood sugar? if not, make sure you do that. and be sure to check your sugar as often as you can. sometimes i take mine 8 times a day. it's a pain but it's helpful. as for emotions, you'll probably notice that they are all over the place at first but once your sugars are regulated you should feel a lot better. also, has your dr. told you anything about changing your diet? i hope this helps you at least a little.

best of luck and stay positive

that absolutely is so helpful to hear. its such an overwhelming process! im glad that im not the only one taking their sugars so much, i thought maybe i was being a rookie and just being overly obsessive. im glad that its normal to be concerned so much. i do alternate which finger to prick each time. but one thing thats been bothering me is that they told me to do injections in the stomach. but its getting a little sore, you know? i haven't tried anywhere else, any suggestions as to where it hurts the least?

thank you so much for responding!!

Okay, I don't really post much but will respond mainly because of your adorable pug. There are certain blood glucose meters that can use a much smaller blood sample that you can take off of the fatty part of your lower arm. That may help you if your fingers really are feeling terrible. I know the injections and monitoring BGs is a huge pain but it gets easier/more routine over time.

I use my stomach, arms, thighs and ass for injections. I usually prop my leg up on a chair and press the fat of my arm up on my knee to do them myself, and sort of reach around awkwardly to do my back thighs/ass... although I bruise really easily and sometimes sitting on my bum after a shot sucks.

Anyway... good luck, darlin'! Crusher the Pug says hello to yours!
