Thanks sharon. I try not to google too much, I just freak myself out <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
I am hopeful it will help and am actually almost looking forward to it. She coughs a lot, wakes up coughing, spits up tons, can't be layed flat for any period of time, and is generally uncomfortable after eating. They think all that discomfort is contributing to her poor feeding, she used to be a total piggy. She was projectile vomiting ounces after every feed prior to all of these meds.

When she was hospitalized they did a bronch and endo, which showed aspiration and a milk allergy. They changed her to a hypoallergenic formula but it hasn't helped. They did 2 diff types of swallow studies, one with a lower bowel follow through, and a milk scan, and they all showed she wasn't aspirating while swallowing, so it must be from below.

Thanks for your reply, I hope Hazel's goes as smoothly as Sophia's did <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

my sophie had great results since her nissan...she also has a feeding tube. i couldnt even lay her flat to change her diaper when she was small because she would start aspirating. so i know where you are coming from. my daughter had to be burped thru her g tube for the first couple months after the nissan but then she was able to do it on her own. the procedure basically solved all reflux problems and has been a blessing....the only negative i have noticed is that when she had the flu this winter she was sick on her belly but couldnt throw up and was miserable for a couple hours...but i will take that over the horrible reflux she suffered with anytime!! (my daughter is still on prevacid ..but like alot of other cfers that also helps her enzymes "work better" by calming the acidity in her stomach. and my daughter was 4 months old when she had the nissan and gtube done). if you have any questions, feel free to send me a note.

Luke had the nissen procedure at 8 months of age. He recovered quickly. It completeley solved his reflux. We did have to "vent" him in the beginning through his g-tube, but that was not hard. He did gag some, esp. through the night during his overnight feeds, but then we just knew he needed vented and then he was fine. We are glad we had the procedure done.
Angela, mom to 7 terrific kids, including Luke, 2 years old, with CF
