"Mighty Milk" - 1 cup 2% milk, 1 cup cream, chocolate or strawberry syrup to taste. This combination has 1000 calories in a 16oz serving. You can adjust the cream down if it's too thick but it tastes like a milkshake and has a lot of fat and calories without a ton of carbs.

Or ScandiShakes - nutritional supplement - using 2 packs in 8oz of 2% milk. Again around 1000 calories and not much quantity but it has more carbs.

These have helped my Matt gain 40 pounds over the course of 2.5 years. Hope it helps.

Hope it helps.

Hi Amy,

I'm not a parent, but I'm a CF adult who used to be a kid who didn't want to eat. To my mom's dismay I used to choose fruit and jello over any fattening dessert. She tried to force scandishakes at one point even though I said I didn't like them (still don't)... that led me to lock myself in the bathroom.

I still have problems eating sometimes. Keep in mind when you're really congested you sometimes already 'feel' full. I think sometimes we swallow mucous which doesn't sit well in our stomachs either. Some ideas - keep food accessible to her. My mom keeps snack foods in jars on the counter. Grabbing a few nuts or crackers throughout the day can add up. She'd also make me food and put it within reach even if i said i wasn't hungry. I might not feel good and think i dont want to eat, but sometimes once i smell it, or it's within arms reach, i want it!

I've used appetite stimulants and loved them (megace) but they can have a negative impact on glucose levels... so I guess it's a question of how badly you need the weight.

Hope this helps!

Good luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

she may see food as a burden and something that has to be done ie docs telling her all the time to eat cos its good for her cf,so there maybe a negative correlation with her attitude to food,

i would say find something she likes(and is healthy) and try scandishakes (chocalte flavour is nice)as there good for calories, i aslo feel most children like their food and if someone doesnt try asking her and finding out what the real underlying cause is,beacuse food and not eating enough may be a underlying issue for something that is deeper and possibly troubling her and is being taking out on her negative stance towards eating or it may be simply something physical that is preventing her from eating ,be it stomach probs etc etc etc
