A couple of our power lines went down in our backyard last night. We didn't lose power; but, the electric company wanted to cut it all night and come out in the morning and fix it.....yikes!!! A CFers worst nightmare. We talked them into not doing it that way. My thoughts immediately went to how to do treatments with the vest, thousands of dollars worth of meds in the fridge, overnight O2. It made me realize how dangerously unprepared for any kind of disaster I am. I have an e-flow that runs on batteries......so I could take care of the nebs. I also have a flutter.....but nothing does the job like the vest and I am not one who can skip. I spose a cooler would be OK for the meds but I would worry about them. O2.....oh well! They are coming today to fix it and I don't know how long we will be without....it sucks! How are all of you in the flood zones and other disaster areas dealing with the CF part when all of us depend on clean water and electricity for our care? I don't know how anyone with CF got through Catrina.

Its important that you register with the Electric Company about your health issues in case of power failure. It bumps you up on priorities during outages etc.

Of course that doesnt help much DURING it.....

IT is scary tho! Most people get irritated, but we get worried HA~

We have the same thing here in Australian as Melissa was saying, you need to register with the electricity company that you have an urgent medicaal condition and that way you go to the top of the priority list for electricity reconnenct in case of power failure or lines down.

my other suggestions would be to jsut have another place you can go ie. close friends or relatives. where you can hook up. we also keep a large amount of ice bricks in the freezer for meds just in case of a power outage.

You may want to consider buying a generator.
