Non Sedated CT Scan for 4yo

L's scheduled for a CT Scan in 3 weeks and I've really gotten it in my head tht it should be without sedation. Am I crazy? Part of me thinks that he would be better off not ever knowing what's coming or what just happened. But I also know that he's been "sensitive" towards anesthesia before (not plain sedation though) and I would love it if he could just skip anything that compromised his respiratory system.
My idea for practicing includes making a mock CT machine out of an appliance box, have him lay in it for 5 minutes while listening to a story on the iPod.
As I type this, I just can't imagine my boy even considering being left, awake, and lying still. He is quite the Momma's boy!

Aidan does non sedated CT scans which he started at age three. They are so much easier without sedation. You could try it and if it doesn't work, use sedation. Good luck!

Austin is now 8 and he has done really well with the NO sedation for ct scans and MRI's. I think it was harder on me wondering if he would lay still or not. but actually he did great. I was really worried about the MRI with him staying still but he was like a pro at it.

And like they said if they can't get a good reading if they
are not still then they can reschedule with sedation.

I think he will do fine. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Emily had a sinus CT earlier this year. She was 3 at the time. She did have sedation, because we knew she'd be too afraid to lie still. The medication they gave her was actually very gentle. She did have to have an IV, and getting that in was awful, but, once they pushed it in she closed her eyes, smiling. Then, when the CT was over, the IV was capped and removed right away, and she woke up, just like that. She has had a terrible time in the past with anesthesia - very combative and terrified as it is wearing off. This was totally different. SHe woke up asking when they were going to start taking the "pictures."

I, too, worry about anything that impacts breathing, BUT, I knew that there was no way for them to get the info they needed if she was awake.

Since she was under the effect of the Brevitol for such a short time, I felt ok with it, after it was all over.

Good luck to you! If you go the "practice" route, be sure to let us know how it works out!
