Not feeling well!

its strange how same illness has different reactions in a person's body.
i am 44yrs old and i can miss nebs a lot and I do. and no i dont feel much difference UNLESS i am very ill and then I cant think of parting from my machine/neb.

I know that I have had a much milder case of c.f. than most people who have it. Yet I am not so well anymore. I can tell the difference. Sleeping is so difficult for me. laying down is like killing me so i am always turning and turning so i dont drown. so i guess i do have to do the nebs more often so i can sleep more at night.

For years i did not do any nebs. nearly two decades.
howevre i do have pseudomonas now and thus the reason for my nebs and ails.

I get some days where I just feel like crap. I look at this way though, people withough CF have those days too, its just a little different for CF pt's. I'm the opposite of some of you. If I miss a neb or a vest tx, it doesn't seem to effect too much. Sometimes it does though. I have a questions for everyone, If you drink alcohol, does it seem to loosen up your mucous? I can bring a lot the next morning if I have a few drinks. (I just thought of this question reading that you said you had some alcohol on the weekend nicolaj).

Kevin, the day after i have had alcohol my chest feels very full. i dont think alcohol loosens it, i just think because your so dehydrated, the mucus becomes thicker and stickier.

I have not had a transplant!

My longevity has to do with the many variables in life. Why am still alive at 58 is anybody's guess but I am sure that the many choices I have made over the years have played a significant role.

I avoid cigarette smoke and exposure to obvious air pollution such as fireplace smoke and chemical fumes. I quickly leave an area that may be dangerous to breathe the air. I get indoors and out of harms way. If I find myself driving behind a vehicle with a diesel engine I close my windows, drop back and turn on my air conditioning. I have an excellent filtration system in my car that can filter smoke and I also have a good quality air filter in my home. I avoid foods that tend to create more lung congestion and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

What I know about alcohol consumption is that it is very harmful to your lungs! It damages the epithelial wall of the lung (the lining) and is very dehydrating! This kind of damage can lead to bleeding and can also cause a lung collapse.

Dehydrated lungs are much more difficult to clear. Our lungs depend on enough hydration to move the junk out before it causes an infection.

If you want to improve your chances of survival stop drinking alcohol or at the very least greatly limit your consumption to rare occasions and never ever get intoxicated.

The best of friends will respect your choice to not drink and you will probably have a better time than your drunken friends especially since you will feel better.

Sincerely:
