ok, so i coughed up blood for the first time today. and my doctor wants to see me monday and i'm getting the picc on monday. is it okay to wait over the weekend? just curious to what your doctors do. my clinic is 2 hours away and she doesn't see patients on certain days because she has clinics. they should make an exception.

my doc wouldn't wait... but he's very proactive and takes coughing up blood as a sign of infection.

3 days of letting the infection brew would not be ok with him..... plus he would worry about the blood escalating over the weekend (need embolization, etc).

We got lectured for letting a cough go 3 days because we had a clinic appt already scheduled the next week.

We were told in no uncertain terms that we were to call at the 1st signs of trouble.

How much blood was it? My son's doc told us not to worry when it happened the first time. He had coughed up about 1/3 cup.
It is so scary!
