Oi, I've had that happen many times. Usuaully a change in med or a burst of prednisone will get me going in the right direction. The cause is any one of the things Sakasuka mentioned - that's pretty much everything I was going to say. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Ask your doc to look at your culture results again first and foremost; check to see there isn't something better you could be on.

If none of that, then have a friend (or bf?) take care of you for just a day or two at home... it makes a world of difference just to have a "day off" from worrying about yourself. Just rest, relax, order some pizza or something! Don't work, don't cook, and let your friend take care of the IV stuffs. If that isn't possible, take a day to rest as much as you possibly can and see how it helps. Take care!!

Sometimes it can take a bit of time after being off IVs for me to notice a difference in FEV1. Yes, inflamation is a big culprit so I agree that maybe a steroid burst would be helpful. I think one big factor to consider is your production level. Are you coughing up much less gunk? If you can answer yes to that, that is a very good thing regardless of where you FEV1 is as your body continues to heal. Also, how do your lungs sound to your doc (clear or crackles). Sending hugs your way.

I just went through this. I didn't have my pft's checked but i know they were dropping while on IV's because I kept getting more short of breath and my sats dropped from 92 to 87. I had to start oxygen at home after gettting out of the hospital.

This really didn't seem right to me and I kept telling my doctors this just isn't right. IV's always work for me. What was the problem? INFLAMMATION.

That's the only thing I can figure was causing this. I started Prednisone six days ago at 20mg and am now taking 10mg. I have been feeling better each day. Each days is better than the previous day. My sats went from 88-90 on room air to 93-95 on room air. I am now not in need of oxygen and feeling 100 percent better.

Prednisone may not be an option for everybody and I had to pretty much beg my doctor to let me try it, but it has been an answer to prayer. I have had to add a little bit of extra insulin and I know this is not good for my osteoporosis, but its 10 days so how bad can it be. I feel better than I have since this summer.

I go through this just about every time when I have a "clean out". I gain big FEV1 numbers in the first week, gain a decent amount 2nd week, and sometimes gain or lose a couple points in the third. Seems to be about 50/50 in that third week. I actually find out tomorrow if I gained in this third week.

I would say rest would be the huge key ingredient that might be missing. I always stay home through at least 2 weeks of my IV's. The last couple times I have stayed at home during the third week too. I hope you get back to your high 40's again soon! I'll be prayin for ya.
