Ugh. I called cf center, pharmacy and insurance. Insurance will give an override for 5days worth but pharmacy won't break up a box. Now what?

I would try calling genentech. I hear they are a very good company, perhaps they would just spot you 5 days worth. It's worth a shot.

What about a cf center or hospital pharmacy. When ds was in the hospital last year the would bring us an individual vial each day...

I'm really hoping we can get this tomorrow. I hate when she misses treatments. Good idea about contacting genentech. I haven't checked the hospital pharmacy's yet. We are in NYC anyone know which hospital to check since St. Convents closed? Where is the nearest Cf hosp?

Hi~ you could go to Columbia on W. 168th St...I go to the Gunnar Esiason Adult CF center though. Since I was diagnosed just this year I am not sure about their pediatrics division although I am sure there is one. You could maybe call them to find out unless someone else jumps in: 212.305.0631

hope this helps!!

Sometimes it's not a bad idea to take a prescribed length break from a medication. It reminds us, or makes us question, why we take a medication so religously. You could use it as an educational tool for Alysa. In other words from the experience if she is coughs a bit more or clears her throat together you can assess that that is what Pulmozyme does for her. Then when she is cranky about doing her meds in the future you can remind her that this med does X, Y and Z. When we went on vacation as a family, I know my mom pared down my routine. Perhaps it was with replacement of something else...for example lots of sunshine and a "swimming in the ocean" treatment. Anyway, life must go on. 5 days of no Pulmozyme isn't going to make a huge difference IMHO unless she is on the verge of exacerbation but then I imagine you wouldn't have gone on the trip.

I totally agree with Lauren. I know that oppinion may be unpopular, but we are SO compliant with all meds around here...accidentally forgetting five days worth of pulmozyme is not going to cause damage. Unless, like Lauren said, she is already getting sick.

When Andrew was participating in a HTS study he had to go two weeks without any med before starting the study. The first night on the study he was given his study med and coughed up so much junk I was almost sick. But, like Lauren said, it showed him how much the medication does for him when taken every day.

It may be a little break for you, too! The biggest challenge if you decide not to look for replacement pulmozyme is to not feel guilty while you are gone. It was an honest mistake, and Alyssa will be okay! Promise not to worry sick, okay??

Enjoy your trip, Heather!
