Our community DID put it to a vote a few years ago and no smoking passed. Stand alone bars, which didn't allow people under 21 were allowed to have smoking.
Restaurants couldn't allow smoking unless they limited the age, which is what a few did; however, there were a couple bars (VFW) and a steakhouse, which claimed they didn't understand the new law, which they had supported, that they were losing charitable gaming money... So the City Council overturned it. Smoking is now allowed in restaurants again provided they have separate enclosed bars; however, a lot of these places are older buildings, so the smoke seeps in OR they leave the doors propped open because the air conditioning is too cool, so the wait staff doesn't have to open and close doors when serving the bar customers.. It's very frustrating. If a complaint is received, the police will drop off a copy of the law to the business and ask them to close the door.
